Carabao Cup First Round

All clubs playing in the Championship and Football League One and Football League Two enter at this stage, unless they were competing in the UEFA Europa League, like Birmingham City were in the 2011/12 season.

The clubs were divided into northern and southern sections, whereby half the teams are seeded and the other half are not seeded. A draw was then made to determine whether the seeded club is to play at home or away, and then the club is drawn against an unseeded club from their section.

If a match finished in a draw then it was decided on penalties, with the winners progressing to the Second Round.
